| Diagnosis A ski with damages and scratches on its running surface glides poorly. Severe damage to the coating affects both rotatability and directional stability. Coatings grinded in a negligent, inhomogeneous way run slowly. This lack of evenness causes unbalanced distribution of pressure, bad gliding and turning. |
| Solution Damages to well-prepared skis are fixed with P-tex wire. The finish should be fibre-free, plane and slightly structured. Skis should be waxed regularly in order to protect them against oxidation and UV-rays. Evenness from edge to edge means ideal gliding and turning. |
| Turning: |
| Diagnosis Skis that are hollow or convex from edge to edge produce uncontrollable edge grip and jerky gliding. Bumpy or convex running surfaces require extremely strong edge set for edge grip and are instable at high speed. |
| Solution Plane running surfaces facilitate the edge set from one side to the other and allow controllable turning. Another important requirement for a good carving ski is a slightly hanging edge (angle: approx. 0.5°) so that the ski turns easily but still allows sudden edge set. |

| Diagnosis Different edge angles, rust, scuffs and abrasion impede controlled edge set. |
| Solution The edge geometry must be adjusted to both snow conditions and skiing technique. At an angle of less than 90° your edge grip is better. For racing, aggressive skiing, carving skis and hard pistes this preparation surely is advisable. |
