Underwear
Strictly speaking right ski apparel starts ‚beneath’. As for underwear, especially breathable functional wear out of synthetic fibre is suitable: the body’s perspiration gets absorbed and escapes. In contrast to natural fibres like cotton that retain up to 60% of their own weight, synthetic fibres always feel comfortably dry to wear. The champions among the synthetic fibres are those containing a certain proportion of silver, as they remain odourless even without frequent washing (e.g. during long backcountry ski tours) in contrast to those of pure polyester.

Socks
Especially if you have the disposition to catch athlete’s foot, you should pay heed to the synthetic fibres of ski- and backcountry ski socks containing a comparably high proportion of wool (approx. 25%). Since large embroidery patterns support blistering, the socks should also be finely knit. Finally some good news for the next get-together in a mountain hut: Especially in combination with a small proportion of silver in its fibres, wool remains odourless. So you may expose your socks in front of your companions with a clear conscience.
